Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC)
CAS: 9004-65-3
Other Name: Hypromellose
Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose is a white powder with a pass rate of over 98.5% through a 100-mesh sieve. It has a carbonization temperature of 280-300 °C and a color change temperature of 190-200 °C. HPMC is soluble in water and some solvents, and its aqueous solution exhibits surface activity, high transparency, and stable performance. The solubility of HPMC increases as its viscosity decreases.
Dissolution Method:
- Heat the required amount of water to 85°C or higher. Gradually add HPMC while stirring slowly. Initially, the cellulose will float on the water's surface, but it will eventually disperse to form a uniform slurry. Continue stirring while cooling the solution.
- Alternatively, heat 1/3 or 2/3 of the water to above 85°C, add the cellulose to form a hot water slurry, then add the remaining cold water. Keep stirring while cooling the solution.

**Application:**
1. **Dispersant in PVC Production:** HPMC is primarily used as a dispersant in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It serves as a key additive in the suspension polymerization process for preparing PVC.
2. **Construction Industry:** In construction, HPMC is utilized during masonry and plastering processes. It is particularly effective for adhering ceramic tiles, marble, and plastic decorations. HPMC enhances bonding strength and reduces the amount of cement needed.
3. **Coating Industry:** HPMC acts as a thickener in coatings, contributing to a bright and smooth finish. It helps prevent powdering and improves leveling performance.
**Packaging and Storage:**
- Packaged in 25kg bags with pallets.
- During storage and transportation, protect from sun, rain, and moisture.
